You must be at least 18 years of age to become a medical first responder, basic or advanced emergency medical technician, paramedic or firefighter. In some states, a high school diploma is required to enroll in a formal EMS training program.
In order to practice in the emergency medical services field, you must pass the appropriate computer and hands-on exams, issued by the state where you reside. Following these two exams, you must pass a national test to apply for a state emergency medical services license. State licensing requirements may vary.
